Jehovah's Armoury

A week ago, we looked at Jehovah Sabaoth—the Lord of Hosts, the Commander of the armies of heaven.

Today, we look at another aspect of His character that should fill every believer with confidence: Jehovah's armoury—the weapons of His warfare.

In Jeremiah 50:25 (KJV), the Lord declares:

"The LORD hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans."

I confess that the day I discovered this verse brought me tremendous joy.

Knowing that our God possesses an armoury filled with weapons, ready to accomplish

His purposes of deliverance, reminded me that no battle we face is beyond His ability.

There is no attack of the enemy for which God is unprepared, and no battle beyond His power to win.

As I noted in the first devotion, this topic is not a favourite among many Christians. Many believers are uncomfortable with discussions about deliverance, evil spirits, demons, and demonic powers.

Yet the reality is that these are real issues.

People may find themselves caught in these battles, sometimes knowingly and at other times unknowingly. Doors may be opened through personal decisions, unhealthy associations, or even family and generational patterns they had nothing to do with.

The Apostle Paul reminds believers:

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

—Ephesians 6:13 (KJV)

Paul leaves us in no doubt that there will be "the evil day." It is not a question of if, but when.

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore..."

—Ephesians 6:13–14 (KJV)

Jesus Himself also said:

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

—John 16:33 (KJV)

His words remind us that spiritual battles are a reality for every believer.

The reality is that many families today are facing battles they never expected and were never prepared to encounter.

These battles may involve health issues that doctors cannot explain—or even some they can explain, but that also have a spiritual dimension; generational patterns that seem impossible to break; bondage; occultic influences; witchcraft and wizardry; exchanges of destiny; oppression; and every form of spiritual domination.

The Bible teaches that there is an unseen spiritual realm.

Although invisible to our natural eyes, its influence is often evident in the challenges we face.

We cannot afford to be ignorant of these realities or unprepared for them.

Rather than dismiss these realities, Scripture calls us to remain spiritually alert and equipped for the battles that come our way.

But glory be to God—we are not without help. Throughout Scripture, God continually reminds us that no matter what form these battles take, when we invite Him into them, we place them in the hands of the One who has never lost a battle.

Psalm 46:7 gives us this assurance:

"The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge."

The Lord of Hosts does not send us into battle alone. He is with us, and He is our refuge.

Isaiah also gives us this wonderful promise:

"...When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him."

—Isaiah 59:19 (KJV)

With Him beside us, we will surely overcome.

He is able to take charge of every battle we face against the powers of darkness.

Today, I simply want us to explore the Lord's armoury and look at a few of the weapons He has chosen to reveal in His Word.

What Then Is in God's Armoury?

Jeremiah tells us that the Lord has an armoury.

What, then, does Scripture reveal about the weapons He uses?

Dr. D. K. Olukoya notes in his book 101 Weapons of Spiritual Warfare that Scripture reveals well over one hundred weapons in God's armoury. As I began studying this subject, I was amazed by the variety of ways in which God fights for His people. Some of these weapons are well known to us, while others are mentioned only briefly in Scripture and are rarely discussed.

In this devotion, we will explore just a few of them.

1. God Himself

The greatest weapon in God's armoury is God Himself.

Throughout Scripture, there are moments when the Lord did not merely send an angel or use another instrument. He entered the battle Himself.

Isaiah describes Him preparing for battle:

"For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke."

—Isaiah 59:17 (KJV)

When God arises, every opposing power must give way.

The psalmist declares:

"Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him."

—Psalm 68:1 (KJV)

No weapon is greater than the God who commands them all.

2. The Blood of Jesus

One of the greatest weapons available to every believer is the blood of Jesus Christ.

Through His death on the cross, Jesus defeated the kingdom of darkness and secured our redemption.

The Scriptures declare:

"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony..."

—Revelation 12:11 (KJV)

The blood of Jesus speaks of forgiveness, redemption, deliverance, and victory.

It reminds every power of darkness that the price has already been paid.

The blood that was shed at Calvary still speaks today.

3. The Word of God

God's Word is another powerful weapon in His armoury.

The writer of Hebrews says:

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword..."

—Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

Paul describes it as:

"...the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

—Ephesians 6:17 (KJV)

When Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus did not argue with him.

He answered with Scripture.

Again and again He declared,

"It is written."

No matter how impossible a situation may appear, God's Word remains one of the greatest weapons available to every believer. His Word never fails. (Luke 1:37) His promises never return empty. (Isaiah 55:11)

But wait, there are other weapons.

Some weapons are already familiar to us because we have seen them deployed throughout the Scriptures.

During Israel's deliverance from Egypt alone, God used the Angel of the Lord (Exodus 14:19–20), the east wind (Exodus 14:21), and the sea (Exodus 14:26–28) to defeat Pharaoh and his army.

Elsewhere, He used hailstones (Joshua 10:11), fire (1 Kings 18:38), thunder (1 Samuel 7:10), lightning (Psalm 144:6), chariots of fire (2 Kings 6:17), the sword of the Lord (Judges 7:20), the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 59:19; Zechariah 4:6), the blood of Jesus (Revelation 12:11), the Name of Jesus (Acts 3:6; Philippians 2:9–11), and the Word of God (Hebrews 4:12;

Ephesians 6:17).

But did you know that the Bible also speaks of God's fan (Matthew 3:12; Luke 3:17), His hook (Isaiah 37:29; Ezekiel 29:4), His net (Ezekiel 12:13; Ezekiel 32:3), the blast of His nostrils (Exodus 15:8; 2 Samuel 22:16), His hiss (Isaiah 5:26; Zechariah 10:8), His indignation (Jeremiah 50:25; Isaiah 13:5), and even His flying roll (Zechariah 5:1–4)?

What an incredible picture this gives us of our God. He possesses an armoury filled with weapons, all under His command and ready to accomplish His purposes. Whatever battle His children face, He is never without the resources to fight for them.

But while God fights for His people, He also calls His people to stand with Him. He does not call us to remain passive. He prepares us, equips us, and teaches us how to stand in the battles we face.

The psalmist declared:

"Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight."

—Psalm 144:1 (KJV)

The Lord not only fights for His people; He also trains His people.

He teaches us through His Word, through prayer, and through the leading of the Holy Spirit. He equips us to stand firm, to pray with confidence, and to fight the good fight of faith.

What Does This Mean for You?

How can you begin to engage with this knowledge?

First, grow in your understanding of the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross and learn how to apply it in your daily life. Plead the blood of Jesus over your life, your family, and your home every day. It is a powerful weapon against every work of the enemy.

Jesus said to His disciples:

"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

—John 16:33 (KJV)

The same words are true for us today. Whatever challenges we may face from Satan and his agents, Jesus has already overcome.

Spend time reading the Scriptures to discover God's promises concerning spiritual warfare and the victory He has given His people.

When you or a member of your family faces a battle that defies human explanation—an attack on your health, your peace, your children, your destiny, or your walk with God—call upon Jehovah Sabaoth.

Ask the Lord of Hosts to arise on your behalf and to deploy whatever weapon He chooses against every force working against His purposes for your life.

Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you how to pray, how to stand, and how to fight for your family until every battle gives way to His victory.

Conclusion

The purpose of studying God's armoury is not simply to admire His power. It is to increase our confidence in the God who fights for His people.

Every battle recorded in Scripture points to one unchanging truth: Jehovah Sabaoth has never lost a battle.

Go today with the confidence that whatever battle lies before you, the Lord of Hosts is able.

Reflection

As you go about your day, reflect on the work Jesus accomplished for you on the cross.

Ask yourself:

• Am I aware of the unseen spiritual battles that may affect my family?

• Am I taking full advantage of what Christ accomplished on my behalf?

• What steps can I take today to become better equipped through God's Word and prayer?

  
  

As Jesus said to His disciples, He says to us today:

"Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."
