A Majestic God Made Them All

“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.”

—Genesis 1:31

I was out and about today, and seeing the world around me brought so much joy to my heart—the people in all their forms and styles, their shapes, sizes, and hues.

Summer flowers were in full bloom, with vibrant colors everywhere—wild ones growing from cracks in the side paths and others carefully manicured in elegant pots. Birds of all sizes fluttered about. The slight summer breeze set the cheery trees swaying and their leaves clapping.

There were hugs between friends and families saying goodbye on the sidewalk, dogs with their owners, friendly attendants greeting passersby, the weary walk of the elderly, and the running feet of tiny children. With shared laughter, nods, and acknowledgements between acquaintances, everything seemed right with the world today.

Reflecting on these moments, I am reminded that this is God’s world, full of wonder. When I look at Psalm 104 and find the psalmist testifying to the works of God’s hand, my heart rejoices as it did this morning.

The psalmist’s words echo the beauty I found in my experience. We are here to witness the wonders of God’s work every day, in every form.

In Psalm 104, the psalmist, enthralled by the wonder of the earth, praises the Lord: “Lord my God, you are very great.” “How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all.”

The psalmist paints a vivid tapestry of creation, missing nothing as he traces God’s careful design. He invites us to imagine the “springs pouring water into the ravines and flowing between the mountains,” giving water to the beasts of the field and “satisfying the land.” From this blessing, the earth brings forth food—“bread that sustains their hearts,” oil to “make their faces shine,” and wine to “gladden human hearts.”

High above, “the birds of the sky nest by the waters” and “sing among the branches,” each creature cared for, each detail considered. In this harmonious order, we see not only God’s provision but also the beauty and abundance woven through every part of creation.

The psalmist does not leave out the elements: the moon and the sun know their roles too—“the sun knows when to go down.” And as soon as the sun rises, “people go out to their work, to their labour until evening.”

What a majestic God—one who thought of everything, from the smallest wildflower to the vastness of the sky, all woven together by His design!

He “richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment” (1 Timothy 6:17).

Job captures the essence of today’s reflection. Job 12:7–9 says:

“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;and the fish of the sea will declare to you.Who among all these does not knowthat the hand of the Lord has done this?”

We too can testify that the work of the Lord is great when we look away from our troubles and all that is not going well, and instead enjoy the abundance He has made available all around us.

As the day draws to an end, let’s take a moment to rejoice in the Lord and enthrone Him as the majestic God, just as the psalmist did, grateful that we are alive to see all this beauty around us.

May our eyes be open to see more and more of God’s wonders around us as we go about our ordinary days, so that we can proclaim with the psalmist: “Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

May the glory of the Lord endure forever.

God Bless!
